ABOUT YOUR TRAINER

Shelby Thompson

Hello, I’m Shelby! While I’ve always loved animals, my passion for dog training really began back in 2013 when I adopted Samson, a young Boerboel/Cane Corso mix.

My family always had dogs when I was growing up, but Samson was the first dog who was truly mine, and I was determined to do everything right. However, I soon discovered that figuring out what was “right” wasn’t so easy, and when Samson started displaying some troubling, even dangerous behavior (and added a bite incident to his record), I felt totally lost. There was so much conflicting information out there, and trying to navigate it all felt confusing and overwhelming.

Determined to help my best buddy, I threw myself into learning about dog behavior and honing my skills as a dog handler. In addition to working with my own dog, I got my hands on as many dogs as I could—from fostering, to working at a kennel facility, and helping friends and family with their dogs. And in 2016, I officially began my journey as a professional dog trainer, even spending a year in California to gain more hands on experience. Since then, I’ve worked with countless people and their pups, and helped them through a wide range of issues—from fear to aggression, and everything in between.

I know firsthand what it feels like to struggle with my dog. To feel stressed, hopeless, and overwhelmed. I also know what it feels like to just want more for my dog, and for our life together. Being able to help other people find their way with their dogs, and help those dogs live bigger, more fulfilling lives never stops being rewarding. And I get the added benefit of learning something new with each and every case!

I can’t wait to work together, and help you help your dog!
